Sensori-motor Control of Speech Movements
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper shows how an articulatory model, able to produce acoustic signals from articulatory motion, can learn to speak, i.e. coordinate its movements in such a way that it utters meaningful sequences of sounds belonging to a given language. This complex learning procedure is accomplished in four major steps: (a) a babbling phase, where the device builds up a model of the forward transforms, i.e. the articulatoryto-audio-visual mapping; (b) an imitation stage, where it tries to reproduce a limited set of sound sequences by audio-visual-toarticulatory inversion; (c) a “shaping” stage, where phonemes are associated with the most efficient sensori-motor representation; and finally, (d) a “rhythmic” phase, where it learns the appropriate coordination of the activations of these sensori-motor targets.

متن کاملSpeech Communication Session 2aSC: Linking Perception and Production (Poster Session) 2aSC22. Token-to-token variability and anticipatory coarticulation as indicators of maturity of speech motor control in 4-year-old children
Children's gestures do not appear to be executed with the same dexterity as adults'. Studies of arm movements have shown that young children's gestures are less accurate, more variable and slower than those of adults. This difference in behavior can be explained by a lack of experience with the sensory consequences of motor acts and still-developing forward models for the control of those acts....
متن کاملSensori-Motor Learning with Movement Sonification: Perspectives from Recent Interdisciplinary Studies
This article reports on an interdisciplinary research project on movement sonification for sensori-motor learning. First, we describe different research fields which have contributed to movement sonification, from music technology including gesture-controlled sound synthesis, sonic interaction design, to research on sensori-motor learning with auditory-feedback. In particular, we propose to dis...

Objective: This research aimed to compare the motor skills among students with intellectual disability, stuttering, articulation problems and normal speech. Methods: The study was a retrospective causal-comparative research. From among all elementary male students with intellectual disability in Urmia city, 90 students (30 students in each group) were selected. All groups completed the revised ...
